A Culinary Odyssey: Lukkaew's Journey from Oil Fields to Houston's Thai Culinary Scene

In the charming southern province of Nakhorn Si Thammarat, Lukkaew Srasrisuwan's early years were immersed in the hospitality industry, courtesy of her family's ownership of The Khanom Golden Beach. However, destiny had different plans, leading Lukkaew into the global expanse of oil and gas.

For 19 years, Lukkaew navigated the intricacies of the oil fields, working in 34 countries and residing in 9. Her journey culminated in managerial roles at Schlumberger, a distinguished player in upstream oil field services. Yet, in 2019, a serendipitous move brought her to the vibrant bayou city of Houston, sparking a transformative decision.

Concept One: Kin Dee Thai Cuisine (Launched 2020)

In 2020, Lukkaew's culinary debut materialized as Kin Dee Thai Cuisine, nestled in the cultural haven of Houston Heights. Here, patrons are treated to a sensory immersion into the heart of Thailand. Lukkaew's meticulous approach from preparation to presentation has solidified Kin Dee's status as a cherished spot.

Concept Two: M Express Kitchen Prototype

Redefining conventional timelines, Lukkaew's second venture, M Express Kitchen, emerges as a beacon of modernity in the culinary landscape. Originating as a ghost kitchen, this trendy quick-service restaurant embraces the era of on-demand dining. Anticipated to manifest both virtually and physically in early 2024, M Express Kitchen represents a fusion of convenience and authentic Thai flavors.

Concept Three: MaKiin (Opened November 2023)

Fast-forward to November 2023, and the culinary saga takes a new turn with the grand opening of MaKiin. Lukkaew's pièce de résistance promises an elevated Thai culinary experience, where artful presentation harmonizes with authenticity. Collaborating with esteemed chef partners, Lukkaew unveils MaKiin as a celebration of Thai gastronomy, captivating patrons with creativity and delectable flavors.

As the CEO and Founder, Lukkaew Srasrisuwan seamlessly transitions from the oil fields to the kitchen, weaving her diverse experiences into Houston's culinary tapestry. Her trio of concepts embodies the essence of Thailand, offering patrons an immersive experience that transcends boundaries. Chef O's culinary journey began in 2009 at Furama Chiang Mai, where he started as a Commis Chef at a remarkable 18 years old. He gained experience and skills, expanding his expertise at JUD a Culinary Delight in 2010. From 2011 to 2014, O held Demi Chef positions at three luxurious resorts in Koh Samui, mastering the art of resort-style dining.

Driven by a passion for culinary excellence, O joined the Northern Chef's Association and began participating in culinary competitions, winning over 30 awards, including a triumph in "Iron Chef Thailand Season 5" in 2016. In 2018, he clinched the title of Winning Thailand Chef, securing a coveted spot at the Culinary Institute of America. In 2019, O's talent was further celebrated as he won the prestigious Professional Overall trophy in Thailand's International Culinary Cup and the Champion trophy for Best Ultimate Establishment Award in the Thailand Ultimate Chef Challenge, an esteemed culinary contest in Asia.

In 2019, O assumed the role of Sous Chef at Noi Thai Cuisine and later became the Executive Chef at Yao Restaurant in Atlanta. It was here that O and Bell solidified their partnership, working together to create remarkable culinary experiences for their guests. Most recently, O served as a Culinary Consultant at the buzz-worthy Thai restaurant Kin Dee in Houston's Heights neighborhood.

Chef Bell's culinary journey began in her grandmother's kitchen in Thailand, sparking a deep passion for cooking. In 2015, she began her professional career at Coco Asian Bistro in Fort Lauderdale, where her culinary aspirations truly took flight. In 2020, she honed her skills as a Chef at Noi Thai Cuisine in Oregon, further refining her skills and knowledge of Thai cuisine. The year 2021 marked a significant milestone as Bell's talent and dedication propelled her to Atlanta, where she assumed the role of Executive Chef and Mixologist at Yao Restaurant. Throughout her diverse experiences and culinary journey, Bell has not only honed her skills but also cultivated her unique style and a deep understanding of Thai cuisine. Her unwavering passion for the culinary arts and dedication to crafting extraordinary dining experiences continue to fuel her success as a chef.
